Camper stolen from Chippewa County cancer survivor

Chippewa County (WQOW) - A local cancer survivor is on her way to celebrating 10 years cancer free this weekend in Minnesota. She had planned to take the family camper along for the trip, but it was stolen right from her driveway sometime between last night and this morning.

"We had a picnic table that my husband had made, sleeping bags, all of our utensils," said Holly Munion of rural Chippewa Falls.

Munion's husband Jeff is packing up once again, after the family's camper with the original gear in it was stolen overnight. The camper was supposed to head with the family to Rochester, Minnesota.

"Yesterday during the day we packed up all of our stuff into the camper, took it all down and we hooked up the battery charger so that it would be ready to go today and so all we would have to do is get up and hook it up to the car and get going," explained Munion.

Besides camping, the family was heading out of town for a celebration.

"I was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, and then I finished radiation and chemotherapy in February of 2004," Munion said.

A colon cancer survivor, Holly will be taking part in the get your rear in gear fundraiser.

"It's for the Colon Cancer Coalition, all of the money stays in the Rochester area, and goes to help other patients who are going through colon cancer or who to help patients get screened for it," Munion added.

Through bake sales, and online website and a work luncheon---the family has raised more than $3,000.

"We've been planning it for a long time, we've been raising money for about the last four months, trying to get donations and just to be able to celebrate with my family who has been with me for these ten years, and it's exciting," said Munion.

The family will still make the trip in their SUV, because not going was not an option.

"For my ten year anniversary, we found this race and wanted to do it was a way to give back and also celebrate being ten years cancer free," Munion said.

As Holly says, she's learned there are things more important than material possessions.

"Losing our camper was a little thing, you can get over that," said Munion.

The family is still hopeful that the camper will turn up. If you have any information on its location, call the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department at (715) 726 – 7701.
