The Great Race makes pit stop in Phoenix Park

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Saturday offered visitors to Phoenix Park a chance to view a wide variety of vintage American muscle cars on display here in Eau Claire.

The Great Race, a nationwide rally-style race, began in St. Paul earlier Saturday before making a stop in downtown Eau Claire. Nearly 100 cars, some almost a century old, made their way along the riverfront for spectators. The race is timed, so the cars only stopped long enough for lunch before heading onto the next leg of the journey.

"You're seeing these rare, some of them one-of-a-kind cars, some of them worth hundreds of thousands of dollars coming right here to Eau Claire. Cars are meant to be driven, to see the countryside, and have people see the cars."

This is the 30th annual event. The race follows the Mississippi River downstream and eventually ends in Mobile, Alabama.
