State preparing statewide anti-heroin ads

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice(DOJ) is getting ready to launch an anti-heroin media campaign and hand out grants to help local governments combat problems related to the drug.

The agency is preparing to launch a statewide television spot in late summer or early fall, as well as radio ads and a web page designed to warn young people about the drug.

The monetary awards are $125,000 in one-time grants to local governments with wide-ranging ideas on how to use police, social service agencies and health care providers in team efforts to combat and treat heroin use.

DOJ officials are currently sifting through the applicants.
