Crossbow bill approved by Wisconsin State Assembly

Chetek (WQOW)- A bill that would expand the use of crossbows by hunters in the state is causing quite a buzz in sporting shops. Earlier this month, a bill that would legalize the use of crossbows for all deer hunters was unanimously passed by the Wisconsin State Assembly. Crossbows can be easier to shoot, and the goal of the bill is to recruit new hunters while retaining older ones.  Since the news, stores have seen more people coming in to buy crossbows.

"We've sold probably about a half a dozen, which in hindsight does not seem like a lot but for a small shop and we are mainly known for guns we've definitely seen a small increase in crossbow sales lately," says Chetek Rod N' Gun Manager Ryan Gonzales.

However, the senate version of the bill is not likely to have a hearing before September, which means the governor may not have a chance to sign off on it before the fall hunting season.
