DNR will be combating invasive species over holiday weekend

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - The DNR is planning a 'boat landing blitz' across the state over the Fourth of July holiday.

Staff and volunteers will be on hand at boat landings in a majority of Wisconsin counties. They'll be checking boats and trailers for Eurasian milfoil and zebra mussels, and educating boaters on how to stop the spread of the invasive species.

They'll also be giving away free re-usable ice packs anglers can use to keep their fish fresh. The idea is to encourage them to drain their livewells to prevent microscopic invasives from being transported to other lakes.
