Ramada to be auctioned off, renamed

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A downtown Eau Claire hotel is headed to the auction block next week, and it'll have to get a new name.

S.B. Hotel Management, the owners of the downtown Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, owe more than $1.6 million to both their lender and Ramada. The court appointed another hotel operator to run the hotel until it's sold.

Ramada Worldwide sent a letter to the temporary operator, saying they had no interest in allowing the property back on the Ramada reservation system.

The hotels new operators told attorneys they are gathering information on the cost of re-logoing the hotel and discussing a new name. The company won't comment on a possible new name.

Last night, the city granted a liquor license to the hotel, which will be transferred over to the new owner.

S.B. Hotel Management has filed an appeal, requesting postponement of the sheriff's auction.

Wednesday in court, the judge ruled that in order to avoid the sheriff's sale, S.B. Hotel Management would have to pay the full amount it owes.

The sheriff's auction will be held on Tuesday next week. The hotel is being sold "as is", with all furnishings and fixtures included. The court will finalize the sale on the 24th.
