Flood cleanup crews see boom in business

MADISON (WKOW) -- Cleanup continues in our area after torrential rain flooded a slew of homes and businesses Wednesday.

"A little bit crazy, a lot of phone calls coming in," Servpro Madison's Dana Farnsworth says about incoming business. "It doesn't matter if it's 2 inches of water or 2 ft., seeing water where its not supposed to be is...it stresses people out pretty good," she says.

On Wednesday, eflexgroup employees found a flooded parking lot and ground floor filled with about 2 ft. of water.

"Of course we all got into high gear," eflexgroup Director of HR Julie Beutler says. She says the flooding hasn't slowed them down. "We moved all of their computers, all of their monitors, we got them up and running in very little time," Beutler says about their customer service staff.

But the flooding has bumped up business for Servpro. Farnsworth says while the company usually gets about a dozen calls per week, they've gotten hundreds since Wednesday morning.

Across town, Josh Duggan of Capital Remediation says he has all of his crews out on calls. "Last night, at 5 o'clock when everyone came home from work, that's when the calls really started coming in," Duggan says.

They've run out of equipment and had to order more from a company in Indiana. Duggan says this week will probably count for about 10% of his business this year, and he's anticipating more.

"Typically homeowners that haven't taken care of this problem correctly, we'll see in the next month the mold jobs will start to come in," he says.
