Frac sand companies face storm water violations

Western Wisconsin (WQOW) - Six frac sand companies are now working with the DNR because of storm water violations.

The agency says in each case, sediment-laden storm water left the site and reached surface water somewhere else.  WQOW News 18 is waiting for more specific information about that and what kind of surface water was affected.

The following companies were put on notice to make changes:  Arcadia Sand (Trempealeau Co.), Alpine Sand (Trempealeau Co.), Sierra Frac/Patzner Pit (Trempealeau Co.), Sierra Frac/Suchla Pit (Trempealeau Co.), Superior Silica (Barron Co.) and Great Northern Sand (Barron Co.).

The DNR says each company has a temporary plan to control the movement of sediment from their site, but they're also working on developing a long-term solution.  WQOW News 18 is also waiting for information from the DNR about what enforcement action it will take if the companies don't comply.
