Hale sentenced to 30 years in murder case

MADISON (WKOW)-- Dominique Hale is headed to prison for 30 years after killing a man in Fitchburg last September. He was sentenced Friday afternoon in Dane County court.

The hearing lasted several hours and featured emotional testimony from several friends and family members.

"I will never forget the blood, the screams, the cries or the blue and red flashing lights," Porsha Davis says. "I will never forget having to hide underneath a car and running from a person that I did so much for."

Testimony started with an emotional message from Porsha Davis,  25-year-old Dominique Hale's ex-girlfriend. She was stabbed defending 39-year-old victim Willie Taylor.  On September 8th of last year,  Hale broke down the door to Davis's apartment and stabbed Taylor with a knife.

"I just want you to know you've taken away a father, a son, a brother, a friend and there's nothing you can say, nothing you can do to bring him back," Davis says.

Members of the Taylor family also testified for the victim. Moments later family members of the suspect spoke in his defense.

"My brother is not a monster. He is not a menace to society or none of that," Hale's sister Diamynn Smith says.

After numerous testimonies, attorneys made their final suggestions for length of sentence.

"There's plenty of evidence to suggest the psychopathic behavior, somebody who has this anti-social personality disorder," Assistant District Attorney Corey Stephan says.

The defense rebutted with their recommendation of eight years in prison and Hale shared an apology.

"I made a mistake and I'm very sorry for my actions. This is a serious situation that I'm facing and I wish I could change the outcome of what happened. I can't," Hale says.

The judge issued a sentence of 30-years in prison with an additional 10 years of supervision and also shared his hopes for Hale once he gets out.

"I want you to come out stronger. I want you to come out better. I want you to atone for what you have done and I want you to see this as an opportunity to contribute and do good," Dane County Jude William Hanrahan says.

Hale was sentenced for counts of battery, armed burglary, and second degree intentional homicide. Together the counts equal 41 and a half years in prison, but the judge decided the counts should be served concurrently. That means Hale will serve the longest of the three, which is 30-years for 2nd degree intentional homicide.

MADISON (WKOW)--- 25-year-old Dominique Hale is sentenced to 30 years in prison for second degree intentional homicide, battery, and burglary while armed.

Hale stabbed 39-year-old Willie Taylor on September 8, 2012, killing him, and also injured his ex-girlfriend.
