The Color Run set for first appearance in Madison - WQOW TV: Eau Claire, WI NEWS18 News, Weather, and Sports

UPDATE: The Color Run Madison takes off in the rain

MADISON (WKOW) -- The self-proclaimed "Happiest 5K on the Planet" came to Madison Saturday, dousing runners in rainbows of color.

The Color Run made its first appearance in Madison Saturday morning. Participants weren't just showered in colored dust, as is tradition at the race which is taking off across the nation, but also rain. Luckily, the showers didn't bother runners in the least who had other intentions.

"Just to have a good time," says Mike Taylor, a runner from Madison. "Life is tough and it goes by way too quick, so just stop and have a good time."

The Color Run benefits Camp Kesem, a student-run summer camp at UW-Madison for kids whose parents have had cancer.

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Color Run has become a phenomenon around the globe. The unusual 5k is many shades of fun for runners and walkers alike.

Spots are still available for the Saturday morning race. Participants can begin signing up tomorrow at 6:30 am at Alliant Energy Center. The run starts at 8:00 am. Registration costs $50 if you sign up for the race Saturday morning. Runners will receive a The Color Run t-shirt, sweatband, tattoo, bag of color along with other goodies.

The Color Run is free for spectators.

Race Director Kari Dawson stopped by WKOW to tell us more about the race.
