Waunakee man promoted to brigadier general

MADISON (WKOW) -- Friday was a big day for a Waunakee man; Kenneth Koon was promoted from colonel to brigadier general in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

Koon is the outgoing chief of staff for the Army Guard.

He'll now help oversee readiness and training for Wisconsin soldiers.

"I hope to be able to continue to help our state get more ready to have more soldiers prepared to go to whatever mission whether that be foreign or domestic, and continue some of the things that we've started on in the past. And just give the opportunity to lead to continue to grow our readiness and to be one of the best national guards in the world," Koon said.

Koon was sworn-in by Governor Walker.

Koon enlisted in the Army in 1977 as a military policeman.

He joined the Wisconsin National Guard in 1982.
