Bus driver blocks intersection, keeps drivers from hitting downed power line

WEST ALLIS (WKOW) -- A bus driver's quick thinking kept her passengers and other drivers safe after a crash.

A semi knocked down a power pole on Highway 100 near I-94 in West Allis Friday morning.

Bus driver Renee Turnage saw it happen, so she evacuated her passengers and did what she was trained to do -- she used the bus to block other drivers from the scene.

"I didn't think the severity was so big at the time, but it was so. You know, thank God that I did block the traffic with my bus. It's good having a 40 foot vehicle," Turnage said with a chuckle.

No one was hurt.

The road re-opened several hours later.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department says the semi driver was ticketed.
