Rush on Summerfest led to free entry Saturday night


MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Tickets were in such demand Saturday night at Summerfest that people were let in free to relieve the long lines.

Summerfest spokesperson John Boler says it's the first time he can remember such a rush at all three gates, where so many people were trying to buy tickets at the same time.

After consulting with police, officials determined the best way to handle the crowd was to let them in without a ticket. Everyone still had to go through security.

Boler recommends anyone going to Summerfest in the coming days should buy tickets in advance online if possible.

"You can avoid having to purchase tickets right at the gate and literally you're walking right up to that security point to go in," Boler says. "It makes for a much cleaner experience and it can help us alleviate some of those situations in the future."
