Eau Claire (WQOW) -- A key player in this recent Express surge has been centerfielder Charlie White, from the University of Maryland.
He ranks in the top five in various Northwoods League statistical categories: walks, steals, and runs.
Last month, White was a 29th round draft choice of the New York Yankees. He has until next week to decide whether he's signing that organization's offer.
"It was something I've worked towards my whole life and truly a dream come true," says White, "I was really honored to be picked up by the New York Yankees, such a prestigious organization, so it was awesome. I'm still talking to them. I think I have until July 12th to come to a decision on whether I'm going to sign with the organization or go back to Maryland, so I'm taking my time with that right now."
White says he's enjoying the challenge of playing in the NWL.
"I've played in two summer leagues before this," White says, "the Prospects League and the New England League, but none of them were nearly as many games or the schedule is not as demanding as it is up here. We're all here with the same goal in mind, trying to improve our game and just play baseball and have fun."
