Some campgrounds to close due to high water

Buffalo County (WQOW) - High water forces a state park to shut down some campgrounds, which will force many people to come up with a backup plan for the 4th of July.

Merrick State Park's south, group and island campgrounds will close for now.  The DNR says only the north campground will remain open.  Recent rains have caused the Mississippi River to rise.  The river runs along the park near Fountain City.  If we don't see any more heavy rainfall, park staff hopes to reopen the closed areas by mid-July.  The DNR says 62 campers were affected.  They had reservations in the closed areas in the coming weeks.
