Changes at this year's Rhythm & Booms

MADISON (WKOW) -- You'll notice some changes at this year's Rhythm & Booms.

The biggest change is the fireworks show will be on a weeknight. It's Wednesday, July 3.

"Even this morning I was running into people who thought it was next Saturday. So please pass the word around it is Wednesday night this week," said Rhythm & Booms founder Terry Kelly.

There won't be any music stages, carnivals or alcohol sales this year.

The goal is to cut down on traffic in the northside neighborhoods and make the area safer.

Another change -- there won't be an F-16 flyover after the national anthem, due to the sequester. Wisconsin Aviation has volunteered some of its private jets to do it.

"They won't be F-16s. They don't have afterburners. They're not intended to be a substitute for our great Air Guard here at Truax Field but we would like to use it as a reminder and a thank you to our nation's men and women in uniform and we hope that you'll take it in that respect," Kelly said.

Warner Park will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at dusk.

WKOW is a proud sponsor of Rhythm & Booms.
