Keep your pets safe during 4th of July weekend

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) --- The 4th of July can be a scary time for pets.  The Dane County Humane Society wants to remind pet owners to keep your animals home.

Taking your furry friends to a neighborhood barbeque on any normal week can be fun for the pet, but when fireworks go off, it could lead to a runaway.

This is the busiest week for stray animals to be brought into the shelter, says the Dane County Humane Society.

They recommend to keep you pets at home, collar them as well in case they get free, and if your pet is lost be sure to reach out to the shelter in your area.

Another thing to watch out for is summer barbeque food.

Many know chocolate can be harmful, but summer grilling party foods like grapes and onions could be deadly for your dog.
