Nearly 1 million Wisconsinites expected to hit the road for 4th

Eau Claire (WQOW) - If you're packing your bags and loading up the car for a holiday vacation you're not alone.

AAA says nearly 900,000 Wisconsin residents plan to travel over the holiday. That's down more than 1 percent compared to last year.

The state patrol says traffic over the Fourth of July holiday will be at its worst between noon and 8 p.m. Wednesday. It's also expected to be bad during those same hours on Thursday and again on Sunday.

The DOT says most road construction will be halted at noon Wednesday, but drivers will still hit narrow lanes and lane shifts that will cause backups. Among possible trouble spots: I-94 in Eau Claire, St. Croix and Trempealeau counties.
