Madison public market plan moving forward

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison is moving forward with plans to develop a public market.

The city will bring in an expert to put together a business plan for potential locations, vendors, hours and types of products.

The process will include public input.

Mayor Paul Soglin says a market would help local food-based businesses and give everyone better access to healthy foods.

It will be a retail destination for locally-grown and prepared food.

The next step is to develop a business plan over the next several months.

The city will then host a number of opportunities for community members to share their ideas once the consulting team is brought on board in early October.
