Posted:

Prescott (WQOW) - A homicide charge has been filed against a western Wisconsin man in the death of his wife.

Robert Whaley has been charged with reckless homicide. His wife, Emilie, died Tuesday morning at their home in Prescott. Police say Whaley told them he bought 100 milliliters of methadone from someone in town and he and his wife each took half.

Whaley said he later called 911 when his wife would not wake up. His wife was 59.

The CDC says methadone has been used for decades to treat drug addiction, but in recent years, it has been prescribed as a painkiller. Whaley said neither one had a prescription for it.
