Workers to lose jobs after Watertown business closure

WATERTOWN (WKOW) -- A large employer in Watertown plans to close its facility, a move that will affect more than 200 workers.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities notified the state Department of Workforce Development it plans to close its campus at 700 Hoffman Drive in Watertown. In a letter to the DWD, Bethesda says it notified employees on July 1.

About 205 people work at the facility. Bethesda says it fully expects to find employment within its other operations for more than half of these staff members.

The Watertown campus supports 73 people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Bethesda says it is working closely with parents and guardians to help them find placement for their loved ones as quickly as possible.

Bethesda says it has a target date of August 31, 2014 to begin layoffs, but that could change based on the placement of its clients.
