Motorcyclist seriously injured after striking deer

Buffalo County (Press Release) - At 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 a crash occurred on Highway 95 westbound 0.3 miles east of Tobin Road in Buffalo County near Fountain City.

The crash involved 2 injuries.

On July 3, 2013 at about 12:25 p.m., a motorcycle vs. deer vs. car crash occurred on Highway 95 about 0.3 miles east of Tobin Road in the Town of Cross, Buffalo County.

The motorcycle, operated by Christopher Boyum, 42, of Peterson, Minn., was westbound on Highway 95 and struck a deer. He was ejected off his motorcycle and landed on the roadway pavement.

His motorcycle traveled into the eastbound travel lane and was struck by an eastbound Pontiac car driven by Kelsey Guenther, 24, of Fountain City. The motorcycle caught on fire and burned. 

Boyum was wearing a helmet and eye protection. He sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene by Mayo 1 Helicopter to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Guenther was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was not transported by EMS from the scene.

Assisting agencies included Buffalo County Sheriff's Dept., Fountain City Fire, Fountain City FirstResponders, Winona Ambulance, and Mayo 1 Helicopter.
