Disc Golf Business Opens in Eau Claire

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW)--A new store in Eau Claire is hoping to fit a growing niche here in Eau Claire.  Disc Golf 365 just opened their doors.

"The store is Disc Golf 365, and we sell pretty much anything you need to play the sport of disc golf."

The popularity of disc golf is picking up speed and that prompted area resident Steve Kuzenski to open up a store catered exclusively to the game.

"Disc golf discs, we have ultimate discs for the ultimate players who just like to play catch. We'll have portable baskets for sale," says Kuzenski.

The object of the game is the same as traditional golf.  You tee off and then try to finish the hole in the fewest shots possible.  There are even special discs designed for shots of varying distances.

"There's all sorts of different discs, you've got putters mid-ranges drivers and long-range drivers.  The easiest way to identify them is really by just looking at the edge," adds Kuzenski.

The sport has been around for decades, but in recent years the game has seen an explosion in popularity.

One such person who is adding to the popularity is Eau Claire area resident Abram Palmer.

"I started playing disc golf probably 5 to 6 years ago.  Started out, one of my cousins got me a disc for Christmas and I have been playing ever since.  As soon as I started there weren't a ton of people that were into it.  But now all my friends are doing it and my family is doing it and it is definitely growing."

If you are interested in trying out the sport, according to Kuzenski the Eau Claire area is a pretty good place to get started.

"Wisconsin is one of the top five states in the country as far as overall disc golfers and courses, there is about 12 to 14 right within a 30 mile radius of Eau Claire."

Disc Golf 365 is located on Eddy Lane here in Eau Claire.
