Holiday weekend helps Door County tourism

DOOR COUNTY (WKOW) -- The fourth of July weekend is helping Door County's tourism industry, a welcome change after its slow start in June.

Tourists say there appears to be more people participating in holiday events than last year and longer waits at restaurants.

The Door County Visitor Bureau says there's a new trend in recreation: physical activities. They're more popular this year than in the past.

"The whole silent sports craze has really taken off. What that means is human powered stuff so kayaking, biking, running," said John Jarosh, of the Door County Visitor Bureau. "Stand-up paddle boarding certain has taken off."

Jarosh says that many people are using the four-day weekend to explore.
