Citizen Science Center awarded grant to study birds

Fall Creek (Press Release) – Beaver Creek Reserve's Citizen Science Center will receive $5,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to help monitor birds.

"Assessing Avian Management on State Natural Areas" was among 21 projects selected for assistance by the Department's 2013-14 Citizen-based Monitoring Partnership Program.

"We're very pleased with the interest, variety and quality of projects proposed," said Owen Boyle, who coordinates the Citizen-based Monitoring Program for DNR. "Those receiving awards will contribute valuable information about Wisconsin's natural resources, support many DNR initiatives, and will help stretch state dollars further."

Through the Citizen-based Monitoring Partnership Program, the DNR works with community and school groups, conservation organizations and other agencies to gather critical information on plants, animals, water and other natural resources. Projects are selected through a competitive review process with projects eligible to receive up to $5,000 in funding per year.

Since it started in 2004, the Partnership Program has helped fund 198 high priority natural resource monitoring projects statewide. More information on the Wisconsin Citizen-based Monitoring Network is available at

Beaver Creek Reserve is a special place that serves its mission to connect people with nature. The Reserve is located four miles north of Fall Creek on Highway K.
