MADISON (WKOW) -- A former church official was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child.

Court records show James Gillespie, 48, pleaded no contest to second-degree sexual assault. A second count was dismissed but read in.

Gillespie is accused of assaulting the same 14-year-old boy as a former Mount Horeb police officer, Dennis Jenks. Both men told investigators they thought the boy was of legal age when they met him.

Gillespie served as director of music ministry at a Middleton church. He was let go of the position after his arrest.

MADISON (WKOW) -- A former church official accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy is expected to make a plea Friday.

James Gillespie, 48, faces two counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. Police say he assaulted the same 14-year-old boy as a former Mount Horeb police officer, Dennis Jenks. Both men told investigators they thought the boy was of legal age when they met him.

Gillespie served as director of music ministry at a Middleton church. He was let go of the position after his arrest.

Gillespie has a plea hearing scheduled for Friday morning in Dane County Circuit Court.

Jenks, the former police officer, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the same boy. Police say it was an investigation of Gillespie that led them to Jenks.
