19 cats found in cramped home in Racine Co., 10 put down

MOUNT PLEASANT (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society says 19 cats were found in a cramped room in a Mount Pleasant home.  Ten had to be euthanized, and some will be up for adoption.

The Journal Times of Racine says deputies found the cats living in a 10 feet by 12 feet room during an eviction notice last month.

The felines had food, water, and a litter box.  Initially, police reported that none of the cats were sick or injured.  Humane Society director Angela Speed says it turned out 10 cats were not in condition to be adopted.

Speed says cats kept in hoarding situations sometimes develop medical issues or become too feral for human contact.
