Eau Claire Co-op issues "Peak Alert"

Eau Claire (WQOW) - We're in the midst of a summer swelter and we could be forced to sweat it out for a few days. The heat is definitely having an impact.

Tuesday, Eau Claire Energy Cooperative issued a "peak alert." Peak alerts are issued when the energy grid is most stressed.  The hope is the alert will encourage people to cut back on running major appliances. The alert ran until five p.m., there's no word on whether another alert will be issued tomorrow.  Xcel Energy says it hasn't issued any alerts, and says its system has been able to handle the extra energy use so far.
