Press Release from the Lake Hallie Police Department: On Monday, July 15, 2013, at approximately 1:04pm Sgt Ken Taylor and Officer Mitch Bowe were notified of a motorcycle accident on STH-124. When officers arrived on scene it was learned that a motorcycle had crashed and the operator was lying in the lane of traffic. It was determined that the motorcycle was being operated south bound on STH-124 about ¼ mile south of 40th Avenue in the Village of Lake Hallie.

The operator was the only occupant of the motorcycle. According to witness accounts the motorcycle was operating between 50 and 55 mph at the time of the accident. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle was operating in the right hand lane and then slowly moved over into the left hand lane of traffic. The motorcycle was observed to be entering the left hand lane of traffic and came very near to or may have lightly touched a vehicle traveling in the same direction. It was while the motorcycle had just entered the left hand lane that control of the motorcycle was lost and it crashed.

Police did inspect vehicles at the scene and followed up on leads of other vehicles that were present at the time of the accident. The motorcycle was also inspected and showed no signs of a collision with another vehicle. No evidence is present at this time indicating that a vehicle impact took place. The motorcyclist was not struck while lying in the traffic way by any vehicle and all injuries appear to be from the traffic crash itself. The investigation indicates that the crash may be due to operator error or medical condition.

Despite the wearing of a helmet the operator suffered serious injuries from the traffic crash. He is currently receiving medical treatment. The motorcycle operator was identified as Robert N. Mayer (age 80) of Chippewa Falls.
