Eau Claire city vehicle stolen, found at bar

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Eau Claire officials are re-examining their policies after a city truck was stolen Wednesday with the keys in the ignition.

The truck was taken while two city workers were mowing at Wilson Park. Parks and Rec Director Phil Fieber says it's always been common practice to leave keys in city vehicles because several people need to drive each vehicle every day.

But he says that system may now have to be changed due to this incident. Police were unable to track the truck because the thief disabled the GPS by pulling a wire. But it was located early Thursday morning at a bar near Banbury Place.

Fieber says when the GPS was reconnected it showed the stolen truck went directly from the park to the bar. His theory is that it was hot outside and someone wanted a quick ride to a cold drink.

Nothing was missing from the vehicle and there was no damage. Police are still looking into the theft.
