Eau Claire man sentenced in federal gun crime

MADISON (Press Release) - Roosevelt L. Spencer, 32, of Eau Claire was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 15 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.  Spencer pleaded guilty to the charge on May 21, 2013.

Judge Crabb imposed the 15 year mandatory minimum sentence after concluding that Spencer was an armed career criminal.  Spencer qualified for the mandatory minimum sentence because he had two prior felony convictions for crimes of violence and an additional felony conviction for a serious drug offense.

The charge against Spencer was the result of an investigation by the Eau Claire Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O'Shea.
