Hit and run suspect arrested at home after crash


MADISON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office says its deputies arrested a hit and run suspect at his home shortly after the crash he is accused of fleeing.

Two vehicles crashed at County Highway T and Bailey Road in Sun Prairie around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.  The Sheriff's Office says the driver at fault in the collision was driving south on Bailey Road and hit the car driven by Kari Yahnke, 46, of Sun Prairie, who was driving east on County highway T. Yahnke was not hurt in the crash.

The driver accused of causing the crash ran away, on foot, into a nearby cornfield.  The Sheriff's Office says deputies found the man, Luis E. Martinez-Martinez, 21, at his home on Cottage Grove Road in Madison. 

Martinez faces citations for OWI – 1st Offense, Operating After Suspension, Hit and Run, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failure to Report an Accident, Open Intoxicants, and No Insurance.

During the investigation, Martinez admitted to driving the car in the collision and getting a ride from someone in the area following the crash.
