Lone Star Tick in Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -- There's a new, bloodsucking insect that's invaded Wisconsin this summer: the lone star tick.

Lone star ticks are much bigger than the more common deer tick, they're also more aggressive.

Experts say a lone star tick bite can cause a debilitating disease characterized by fever, muscle aches and fatigue.

Their bite can also cause a person to develop an allergy to red meat.

Doctors say sprays with DEET will repel them, and those with permethrin will kill the insect.
