Natural gas blowout off Gulf of Mexico causes evacuations

LOUISIANA (WKOW) – A natural gas well off the Gulf of Mexico caught fire and caused the evacuation of 44 workers on Tuesday.

Authorities say no one was hurt.

Officials want to reiterate that the blowout is not as damaging as the BP oil spill that killed 11 workers and spilled millions of gallons of oil into the gulf.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says they're not sure what caused the gas to ignite or when crews could put the fire out.
