Learning some self defense in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- With the recent muggings in Madison, it's important to know how to protect yourself in those situations. One way to do that, take a self defense class, like Chimera.

Chimera classes are offered at the Dane County Rape Crisis Center. Chimera is a nationwide self-defense program designed for women, and taught by women.

According the center's website, Chimera self-defense teaches verbal assertiveness skills and physical techniques to prevent and stop harassment and assault. The website says Chimera teaches self-defense as a range of skills on a continuum.

Classes at the center teach when it is appropriate to use certain skills.

You can learn more about Chimera, and the classes offered at the Rape Crisis Center at the center's website.

Kelly Anderson, the executive director of the Rape Crisis Center, and the center's Chimera instructor, Bryn Cory, joined us on 27 News at 5 on Wednesday.
