Eau Claire (WQOW) – All-Star games are meant to showcase the very best that leagues have to offer, and that was definitely the case for the Northwoods League Tuesday night in Eau Claire.
Over 80 scouts were in attendance as the North squad defeated the South by a score of 7-5. Eau Claire native and current Express pitcher Tyler Sparger took advantage of the showcase throwing a scoreless inning that included two strikeouts. The next night he was signing a Major League contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Sparger has appeared in 13 games for the Express this season with a 1.14 ERA and 6 saves. He will stay with the team until Friday when he will fly out to the Mariner's Spring Training home in Arizona.
While there he will undergo a physical as well as a number of other tests and workouts before the club will decide where they will send him for the remainder of the season.
