Area homeless shelter gets financial boost, will remain open

Rice Lake (WQOW) - A gigantic show of support helps to ensure the future of an area homeless shelter.

Earlier this spring WQOW News 18 told you about Benjamin's House in Rice Lake. It's Barron County's only homeless shelter and it was about to close its doors due to lack of funding.

Now the shelter's executive director says the community has come through in a big way. They've received pledges of more than $300,000 over the next three years, mostly from churches and businesses.  They're also hearing from civic groups that want to help.

And just last week the shelter received a $10,000 grant from the Canadian National Railroad. That check alone will cover their rent for the next two years.
