Minnesota holds first same-sex marriages on Thursday

MINNESOTA (WKOW)-- On Thursday same-sex couples in Minnesota will be hearing wedding bells. Dozens of couples across the state have plans to wed. They say it's not only about the ceremony, but also about the historical significance of the day.

"In addition to the traditional marriage, get a chance to be part of history and to live as a part of that," Justin Metz says before getting married Thursday.

"We just thought it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in this," Richie Depaolis says.

Rhode Island is joining Minnesota in becoming the 12th and 13th states to allow gay marriage. Rhode Island's first weddings will take place later Thursday morning.
