WI teen competes in National Geographic World Championship

MINOCQUA (WKOW) -- Two young teens from Wisconsin and Minnesota are two-thirds of the U.S. dream team that captured the National Geographic World Championship in Russia.

Thirteen-year-old Asha Jain, of Minocqua, and 15-year-old Gopi Ramanathan, of Sartell, Minnesota are part of Team USA that edged out Canada and India in the final round of the championship event Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The U.S. team won by correctly identifying the country with a flag that includes six small stars and whose gross domestic product has expanded rapidly, but not at the benefit of its citizens. The answer is equatorial Guinea.
