Mays, Nelson break records in All City Swim Meet

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Saturday was day 3 of the All City Swim Meet at Middleton's Walter R. Bauman Aquatic Center, an event that featured 13 area teams. 14-year old Beata Nelson of Ridgewood's swim team broke four meet records on Saturday, including the 100 freestyle, finishing in 55.07 seconds.

Gabrela Mays, an 11-year old from the Hawks Landing swim team, also had a successful day. Mays beat her own record in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 29.11 seconds. Mays is an impressive story, which 27 News shared back in May. Mays shattered her right arm trying to do a flip off of a swing in 2011. She wasn't expected to fully recover, but defied the odds, fully recovering in a matter of months. Now she is one of the top swimmers in her age group in the entire country.
