MADISON (WKOW) -- One practice down, 25 to go before the Badger football team's season opener against UMass on August 31. The media got to see the team in helmets for the first time since the Spring Game in April. Though for everyone, it was their first chance to see JUCO QB transfer Tanner McEvoy in the Badger red. McEvoy will be battling with Curt Phillips and Joel Stave for the starting quarterback job. Andersen laid out his impressions on the play of the QBs after day one.
"Threw the ball very well in pass skelly, but when it became real football, 11 on 11 it became very average," Andersen said. "
"So we'll go back and evaluate the film tonight and see where it sits but this is going to be a process. Not one day is going to make or break a starter but every day is unbelievably important for those three as we continue through camp."
One of the most interesting position battles will be at the safety spot opposite of Dezmon Southward. Waunakee native and redshirt freshman Leo Musso got a good number of reps with the first team defense Monday. Andersen said he likes the athleticism and instincts of Musso, who now wears #19 for the Badgers.
