National Veterans for Peace convention in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Peace is a big topic in Madison this week. The city is hosting a national convention, the Veterans for Peace convention.

John Carey and Ann Wright, both active with Veterans for Peace, appeared on Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about the organization and event. The convention begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the Madison Concourse Hotel.

Click here for a full schedule of events. Activities include a peace poetry reading event at a room of One's Own bookstore, workshops and caucus events. Speakers will touch on a variety of topics including how war impacts the environment, veterans health issues, PTSD and veteran suicide rates.

A Peace Parade and Rally is planned for Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. It kicks off at the Capitol on State Street and runs down to the Library mall.
