Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire Express didn't make it to the Northwoods League playoffs, but the team made great strides over the second half of the season.
The Express made a run at the postseason thanks to a 21-15 second half record. Sunday's season finale was a microcosm of Eau Claire's entire season: the Express rallied for an 8-7 win after following behind 7-0. Eau Claire started its season without its full roster, a main factor in the Express' 12-22 first-half record.
"It's something that we kind of needed to fight through," says Express manager Dale Varsho, "making sure that we got everybody here. Once everyone got here, we lost some great players. But we had high character guys, guys that just loved coming to the ballpark. Just putting in extra time, putting in extra work -- it'd kind of what it is about."
