13-year-old boy arrested in attempted robbery at Wolf's Grocery Store

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -- The Marshfield Police Department says two teens have been arrested in an attempted grocery store robbery that received worldwide attention.

Police say a 13-year-old Marshfield boy and a 17-year-old Arpin boy have been arrested in connection to the July 15 attempted armed robbery at Wolf's Grocery Store.

The store's owner, 96-year-old Marge Wolf, refused to surrender any money during the incident.

"I said no way. You're not getting that," explained Wolf.

After her story aired, it traveled nationwide. Wolf's story appeared on World News with Diane Sawyer, CNN and People Magazine Online.

Marshfield police say the 13-year-old boy admitted to entering the store wearing a mask to conceal his identity, displayed a pocket knife, and demanded money.

A felony charge is being requested against the 13-year-old through Wood County Health and Human Services for Attempted Armed Robbery, according to police.

Police say charges are being requested through the Wood County District Attorney's Office against 17-year-old boy.

Investigators are recommending a felony charge of "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" because officers say he encouraged the 13-year-old to commit the armed robbery.

No formal charges have been filed as of Thursday morning.

WQOW News 18 is not naming either of the minors at this time.
