UPDATE: Osseo Police confirm suspicious item is not a bomb

Posted:

Osseo (WQOW) - Osseo police say that the device found in the parking lot of the Holiday Truck Stop is not a bomb. There were concerns that it was an explosive device when it was found near gas and L-P tanks around noon Thursday. The truck stop was evacuated and has been shut down since.

Again, police say it is not a bomb. Instead it appears to be a pipe, about 10 inches long, with paper stuffed inside.

Osseo (WQOW) - A busy I-94 truck stop remains shut down Thursday afternoon after a suspicious item was found in the parking lot.

Osseo fire officials say someone spotted an item that looks similar to a pipe bomb. It was found in the parking lot of the Holiday Truck Stop at the intersection of I-94 and Highway 10. The device has caps welded on each end.

The fire chief says it could simply be a pipe that fell off a truck, but they're taking no chances. The device is in a potentially volatile area between the gas pumps and a large LP gas tank used to fill smaller tanks. The truck stop was evacuated when the item was found around noon.

The truck stop remains closed and firefighters have created a safe zone around the item while they wait for the Dane County Bomb Squad to arrive from Madison to deal with it.
