Andersen won't announce QB publicly, gives hint

MADISON (WKOW) -- Saturday morning the Badger football team held its only practice of the weekend. When asked about the starting quarterback position, head coach Gary Andersen said there won't be a public announcement on the spot until the team runs onto the field on august 31st for its home opener against UMass.

Saturday's practice ended with senior quarterback Curt Phillips leading the number-one offense in a two-minute drill against the number-one defense. The offense went 69-yards with a goal line score by freshman running back Corey Clement.

Though Andersen won't reveal who his starter will be, he did provide what may have been a hint, while speaking to the media.

"Anybody that sits down and watches practice, you guys are smart guys and gals, you understand where it's going, the direction that it is," Andersen said of the starting quarterback position.

"I think it's still wide open. I think we'll close in on a lot of different positions on Monday with the scrimmage because it needs to and we'll start game preparation for a couple of our upcoming opponents early next week."
