Crews battle car fire at Eau Claire gas station

Eau Claire (WQOW) - It was a chaotic scene on Patton Street in Eau Claire Saturday evening. Emergency crews were needed when a van that was on fire rolled to a stop at a gas station.

No one was injured. It happened at the Mobil Gas Station on Patton Street, Clairemont Avenue. Deanna Cripe from Eau Claire, the woman who was driving the car, tells WQOW News 18 she was leaving the Big Rig Truck Show when she noticed smoke coming from her dashboard.

When she attempted to pull into the gas station to check it out, she says she saw a line of flames behind her van. She had lost power steering and brakes, but was able to stop it.

"I then yelled at all the kids because I had my nephew and my boys and my mother in the car. Yelled at them get the seatbelts off, get the doors open, I'm throwing it in park to stop it, and everybody bailed out," says Cripe.

Eau Claire fire crews worked to put out the flames. Again, no one was injured in the fire.
