Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The sun was barely up on Sunday, but the Blugolds football team was already hitting the field.
This is the team's 7th season under coach Todd Glaser. In 2012, the Blugolds finished above .500 against conference opponents for the first time since 2009, coming in 4th in the WIAC. The team returns 30 letterwinners and 12 starters from that squad. With that much experience returning, optimism was high at Sunday's first practice.
"I think there is a lot of potential in the team," says Glaser. "It's going to be how hard we work and staying healthy -- there's a lot of ingredients that go into a season. Our players have worked very, very hard and we just have to take each practice at a time and get better at each practice."
"The potential is through the roof. I think we're going to shock the world this year. We have a very good team ahead of us, a lot of talent. We just need some leadership people to step up and I think we can beat anybody," adds senior linebacker Sean Graham.
The Blugolds open up the season on the road at St. Thomas (MN) on September 7th.
