Richland Center man shares secrets of award-winning pies

RICHLAND CENTER (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin father of four shares the secrets of his award-winning pies.

David Harper of Richland Center entered eight pies in the Wisconsin State Fair this year and almost every single one of them placed in the top 3. His berry pie got 4th place. Among the top prize winners was Harper's Almond Joy pie, which he entered in the candy bar division. He had three other first place pies.

Harper has also entered pies in the American Pie Council's national contest. He won second prize for his White Chocolate Raspberry Bomb and third place for his Coffee Toffee Silk and Holiday Pumpkin Surprise pies.

Harper tells Wake Up Wisconsin when making pies, don't be afraid to experiment with flavors and keep practicing. He says his first pie crust didn't turn out right, but he kept trying.
