New bus route to connect riders in two cities

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Two busing systems will team up to take riders from Eau Claire to Menomonie.

Wednesday night, the Eau Claire Transit Commission approved the addition of a new route connecting to the Park-and-Ride on the city's west side, which is off Highway 312 or the North Crossing.  The city says it hasn't serviced that part of town in about ten years.

Eau Claire has also been working with Dunn County Transit, to give people the option of traveling on to Menomonie, from that new route.

"I think that opens the doors to further cooperation with getting up to other places in the future. Chippewa Falls, Lake Hallie, all that's on my radar. That's stuff I want to do and if we start the process with one municipality, generally others come knocking," says Mike Branco, the Eau Claire Transit Manager.

The new route will be up and running by mid-September.  Eau Claire Transit says adding this route won't cost anything additional, because it will be cutting out a couple of what it calls "underutilized" routes.
